Wanted: Talent to grace stage

WARREN -- Attention parents or teachers of Watchung Hills High School students: Are you a comedian? Can you play the piano, the accordion or another instrument?

Why not share that talent for a good cause.

The Watchung Hills Parent Teacher Organization in conjunction with the Band Parents Association is organizing its "Panorama," its second annual parent/teacher variety show to be held April 27 at the Watchung Hills Regional High School's Performing Arts Center.

"We had so much fun last year," said Debora Chiu, a parent-teacher organization member organizing the event who is planning to sing at this year's show.

So far, about five acts have signed up to perform in the variety show, Chui said, but she'd like to add about 10 more acts.

"We have a couple of people performing drama scenes, a few rock groups and a folk ensemble that I'm apart of," she said. "Anybody who has a special talent can perform."

The two organizations are also looking for volunteers to help out with the behind-the-scenes work including posing flyers, handing out programs and working backstage.

Two rehearsals have been scheduled for March 15 and April 20. The April 27 variety show is expected to be about two hours long. Refreshments will be sold at intermission.

Tickets for the show are $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be registered for a whrhs.org or purchased at the door. The proceeds of the event will benefit the PTO and the Band Parents Association.

Last year's show brought in about $1,000 for the organizations.

"The talent show is not so much of a fundraiser as it is a community building event," PTO President Laura Mandell said.
